St. John's to Gander

An easy start to our first full day in Newfoundland. Last night we ha dinner together, the first time the entire group was together. A very traditional selection of foods. You'll likely see more about that on the food page.

Everyone was on the bus before our 10am start time. The weather in St. John's was beautiful. The sun was shinning. As we moved north on our way to Gander things clouded up and got misty.

We stopped for lunch at the Big Stop and the folks served 42 people in an hour. They were amazing.

Then we were off to Gander and a stop a the Aviation Museum.  It was very enlightening. What a history of service this little town of Gander has lived. Since the 1930s they have kept the airways safe for military and commercial flights.  A long history Roy of rescuing those in need from a plane crash in the woods near Gander to the housing of 7000 people during 911.

After we were back to the hotel we changed and were off to St. Martin’s Anglican Church where we were received like old friends.  What a time we had eating a traditional Newfoundland meal and being “Screeched In”. (See gallery one for some cod kissing) The fella that screeched us in, Skipper Gary, was quite the comedian and had us in stitches.

After a shot of screech we sang three songs for them which they seemed to appreciate. Afterward we got to talk to lots of the audience and had a grand time meeting people.

We feel truly welcomed to the Rock!
