This morning was very relaxed. People took the opportunity to sleep in , or go downtown to shop. We had to be ready to go “Wheels Up” as Marion says, at 1:00.
I am so pleased and proud of all the gang. We all were on time for bus departures. Only one toile when we were very rushed to get dressed and back on the bus was there any problem and most of that problem was time. 99.9% of the time we were ready for “wheels up” a couple minutes before. Way to go CCC!
We had an hour or so ride to Brigus, a pretty village on a beautiful bay. We wandered the streets, museum, church yard, and forge for awhile until we were back heading off to Freshwater. That took a little extra time as Gary, our absolutely fabulous driver had never been there before. He was cautious and as always concerned about safety. It turned out to be no problem and we found the Freshwater United Church.
I hope there are some pictures. It sits high on a hill overlooking the water. The view is stunning, Again we experienced fantastic Newfoundland hospitality. It just is their thing. The people of these communities are bred to look out for each other and anyone who comes in their path gets treated exactly the same.
Another great meal of homemade soup and sandwiches help to ready us for our last concert. The best part of this meal was the extra people/singers we met. The Sound Bone Folk Choir is a group from the St. John’s region. They sing contemporary and trad folk music.
The CCC started the concert singing our regular first half and then the SBFC started the second half of the concert with three numbers. The next two numbers saw over 60 singers together as we combined for two numbers. It was a great sound.
The drive back was somewhat subdued as people chatted and Jennifer gave some thank yous as many will be leaving us tomorrow to continue their journey. A few of us met for a drink when we got back to the hotel to go over the day and the trip.
Tomorrow most of us journey home to London.
